Every few weeks, I make a new "Offensive Coordinator's Call Sheet." Usually it is simply an update of my previous one.
This has very little to do with gridiron football, but I do have a double-sided color-infused chart of quotations and things I want to keep in mind. When I get a new or better thought, all I do is use my pen to make a note and when I get around to it, my new and improved chart emerges.
I did that today. And I made another one to give away to the good folks out there who may want it.
I typically format my "call sheet" for legal-sized paper (8.5" x 14") and I print it on cardstock, since I am not like most people and keep a decent amount of legal-sized cardstock around.
Today, I reformatted my sheet into letter-size to make it easier for anyone else to print it properly.
What's on it?
Some quotes:
Waylon Jennings — There's always one more way to do things and that's your way, and you have a right to try it at least once.
Jerry Seinfeld — [L]earn to accept your mediocrity. No one’s really that great. You know who’s great? The people that just put tremendous amount of hours into it. It’s a game of tonnage.
Jim Rome — Attitude is a choice, and it is controllable.
Robert Conquest's Three Laws of Politics (Second Law) — Any organization not explicitly and constitutionally right-wing will sooner or later become left-wing.
Brian D. O'Leary — I want it. I don't need it.
Plus, 23 more …
On the flip side of the sheet, I have various books that I find myself referencing a lot, usually with one or two key points for each.
There are sayings and mottoes that I've developed over the years, or outright stole from others. (I credit folks where I can.)
Some examples:
Take swift action. There is no time like the present.
“Make Kimchi” a BO’L “original” — The idea literally stinks! But it gets you places. You may become healthier.
Write down your ideas. 10 per day. Send people unsolicited ideas. Why have "secrets?"
Hans Gruber: Who are you then? John McClane: Just a fly in the ointment, Hans. The monkey in the wrench. The pain in the ass.
Do it your way! Say "no" and don't feel bad about it. You don't have to follow trends…
And nearly 20 more of these morsels …
This is my gift to the loyal readers of my epistles.
Get the sheet and sign up to find out more about our Inner Sphere, which will open its doors later this spring.
As always,
Brian
